Since 2000 she has been a <\/span><b>senior curatorial officer at the Artistic Museums of the Municipality of Trieste<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Previously curator in charge of the Castle of San Giusto, the Museum of Oriental Art and the Museum of Local History, <\/span><b>since 2023 she has been curator in charge of the Sartorio Museum<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She has an extensive record of curated exhibitions and museum installations at the institutions she has been associated with, as well as exhibition catalogues, monographs and essays in both national and international specialist volumes and journals. Her research focuses particularly on medieval art, Western and Eastern applied arts (including the history of textiles, costume and fashion, and the history of porcelain) and the history of prominent families and figures in Trieste between the eighteenth and twentieth centuries, in relation to art collecting and the formation of the city&#8217;s museum collections.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2007 she published the guide to the Castle of San Giusto, and in 2019 the guide to the Chinese porcelain collection at the Museum of Oriental Art. At the Sartorio Museum, between 2023 and 2024 she curated the exhibition &#8220;Eterno femminino. Arte a Trieste tra fascino e discrezione 1900-1940&#8221;, and in 2025 the installation of the Lokar Rooms, which now provide a permanent home for the extraordinary eighteenth-century porcelain collection donated that same year by Dr Giovanni Lokar.<\/span><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Michela Messina (Trieste, 1972) is an art historian who studied at the University of Trieste and specialised at the University of Pisa.
