URBAN Photo Awards 2025: The Driving Force of Trieste Photo Days

Preparations are in full swing for the twelfth edition of Trieste Photo Days , which since 2014 has transformed the heart of Europe into a vibrant crossroads of culture and visual creativity.

From October 23 to 26, the public will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the best of international contemporary photography, with exhibitions in the city’s main venues, workshops, masterclasses, portfolio reviews, photowalks, special events, award ceremonies, and presentations of unpublished editorial projects. The program is packed with initiatives by URBAN Photo Awards, the festival’s driving force.

Renowned figures in international photography, such as Matt Black, Paolo Verzone, Denis Curti, and Andy Hall, are not just jurors for the URBAN Photo Awards 2025; they will play a central role in the festival with workshops, talks, portfolio reviews, and photowalks. A unique opportunity for exchange and in-depth learning, to uncover the secrets of great photographers and engage directly with some of the leading figures in contemporary photography.

This year, the festival will also host the highly anticipated URBAN Photo Awards 2025 ceremony, celebrating the winners of the sixteenth edition, including the young talents of URBAN Photo Arena. The URBAN Photo Awards 2025 exhibition will feature the winning images from the Single Photo, Project & Portfolio 2025, Press Award and Book Award categories.

On display will also be the winning projects of the special Gazes on Existence award, an exhibition curated by Matt Black, Inshallah by Nicolas Brunetti, winner of the Patricia D. Richards Legacy Award 2025, Caryatis by George Tatakis, winner of the Premio Musei Civici 2025, as well as the finalists of URBAN Photo Arena.

The solo exhibitions of the 2024 winners further enrich the programme, featuring works such as Measured Silence by Krzysztof Bednarski, winner of the URBAN 2024 Projects and Portfolios section, and Borders Stories by Ekaterina Frolova, already a winner of the Patricia D. Richards Legacy Award 2024.

The URBAN Reveals the City and Its Secrets exhibitions will bring to life some of Trieste’s most iconic locations, including the Central Post Office in Piazza Vittorio Veneto, ITIS – Public Agency for Personal Services, and the Covered Market. Additionally, selections of the best URBAN photographs will be on display in some of Trieste’s most distinctive venues, as part of the Trieste Photo Fringe circuit and at Trieste Airport.

There’s very little time left! Explore the full programme on the Trieste Photo Days website and get ready to immerse yourself in the international capital of photography, where every shot tells a story and every corner of the city becomes a source of inspiration. Come experience it in person!
