URBAN 2025 lands at Trieste Airport with a brand new exhibition

From July 29, 2025, urban photography returns once again at Trieste Airport with a brand-new group exhibition by URBAN Photo Awards, on display throughout the month of August. A preview of the Trieste Photo Days festival, the exhibition offers travellers and visitors a taste of what’s to come in October.

The show is the result of a well-established collaboration between URBAN Photo Awards, Trieste Photo Days and Trieste Airport, which every year transforms the Furio Lauri gallery into an international showcase for urban photography. Once again this year, those arriving at the festival via the airport will be treated to a first look at some of the most compelling images from the contest, selected from thousands of entries from around the world.

119 images will transform the airport from a simple transit space into a true exhibition venue, where urban geometries, glimpses of everyday life, and stories from around the world intertwine in a shared visual narrative. An invitation to slow down and be surprised.

Among the featured works, two striking authorial projects stand out:

Donatella Venturi, with Urban Fragments of Bolivia, takes us through the streets of La Paz, Sucre, and Potosí, capturing everyday moments in Bolivia’s Indigenous communities. Her photographs highlight gestures, faces, and details that gently portray the dignity of daily life, rendered with poetic depth through thoughtful use of color and composition.

Dai Nakamura presents Gulf Coast Expressway, a visual journey along Japan’s Bayshore Route — a landscape suspended between nature and industrial development. Shot from a moving car window, his images explore the fleeting beauty of modernity, framed by sunset light and vast skies.

Why at Trieste Airport?

Trieste Photo Days has been collaborating for years with Trieste Airport, curating photographic exhibitions aimed at an international audience and bringing contemporary photography into a space of transit and encounter like the Furio Lauri gallery. Located on the first floor of the airport, the Furio Lauri gallery is a space where art and travel meet, offering passengers an unexpected aesthetic experience that seamlessly blends into the flow of movement.

Dedicating space to urban photography means giving visibility to visual languages that capture the complexity of the present, while also showcasing both local and international artistic sensibilities. An initiative that enriches the travel experience and strengthens the bond between culture and mobility.

An experience accessible to all

The exhibition is open to the public and free of charge, available during airport opening hours on the first floor in the Furio Lauri exhibition area. Passengers and visitors can enjoy this extraordinary selection of images while waiting for their flight, turning their waiting time into a pleasant and inspiring moment.
