Taras Bychko

Taras Bychko is a Ukrainian documentary and street photographer based in the United Kingdom, whose work explores memory, time and identity through the observation of everyday life. He actively works in street photography, focusing on the quiet tension of ordinary spaces, where meaning emerges not from events but from presence, atmosphere and subtle human gestures. His long-term photographic practice is rooted in observing the unnoticed and revealing meaning within the everyday.

His work has been published internationally, including in The Guardian, National Geographic, Leica Fotografie International (LFI), Burn Magazine and Fisheye. Winner of the National Award Photographer of the Year (2016), Leica Street Photo (2019), Documentary Family Awards (2017, 2018, 2019), Life Framer (2022), reFocus Awards (2022), IPA (2022) and Eyeshot (2025). Finalist of the Miami Street Photography Festival (2016, 2017, 2018), Streets Sans Frontières (2018) and LensCulture Black & White Awards (2024).

Author of three photobooks: Two Rooms, Sykhiv, Out of Time. His work has been exhibited internationally, including at Leica Gallery London. Taras Bychko is the Creative Director of the London Street Photo Festival, Head of Photo Projects at the Lviv Municipal Art Center, and co-founder of the Ukrainian Street Photography community.
