Steve Bisson
Steve Bisson is a seasoned professional in photography and visual arts, working across roles as a curator, art director, and educator. Describing himself as “mestizo” with Venetian, French, Dutch, and American roots, he grew up with a keen observational eye shaped by diverse experiences and pre-digital perspectives. Now based in Paris, he has dedicated over 20 years to critically examining the function of images in contemporary society.
As an educator, Bisson has taught at various institutions, emphasizing both practical skills and cultural understanding. He co-founded the academic network Blurring the Lines and currently serves as the Chair of the Photography Department at Paris College of Art, having taught across multiple programs there since 2018. He frequently lectures and collaborates with universities and cultural bodies worldwide.
His curatorial work involves numerous international exhibitions, festivals, and events, often focusing on contemporary social themes and civic participation. He serves as the art director for the Lab27 cultural center in Italy. Furthermore, Bisson is the chief editor of the international platform Urbanautica Journal of Visual Anthropology and Cultural Landscapes and founded the publishing house Penisola Edizioni. His academic background includes a degree in Urban Planning from IUAV Venice and an MBA from Kansas University.
