SPACES – The Single Photos Category at the URBAN Photo Awards

The SPACES category in the Single Photos section of the URBAN Photo Awards is dedicated to the city as a photographic subject in its own right: a space to be explored through its forms, the layering of historical and architectural languages that make it unique.

The category embraces a wide range of approaches and sensibilities: from architecture to buildings and structures, from urban geometries to design, from city landscapes to urban art, from industrial heritage to green spaces, through to aerial views that offer an otherwise impossible perspective. Each subcategory provides a different way of reading urban space, but all look in the same direction: the city as a system of forms, memories and transformations in constant flux.

Photographers are free to experiment with different techniques and styles, both in shooting and in post-production. Image processing is permitted, but excessive retouching is not allowed.

The Single Photos jury is led by Christopher Morris, one of the defining figures of international photojournalism, whose ability to read urban spaces in both extreme and everyday contexts makes him a versatile and authoritative interpreter of this category too.
