OPENEYE Magazine awards “Lacio Drom” by Claudio Rizzini

Our media partner OPENEYE magazine has awarded a Special Prize in the context of this year’s Trieste Photo Days festival.

The prize recognises and encourages a particularly meritorious emerging talent whose work just failed to make the final mix of main prize winners selected by the international jury.

The first recipient of this new award is Italian photographer Claudio Rizzini for his series Lacio Drom, from URBAN Photo Awards 2021: a moving photo essay devoted to Roma and Sinti minorities.

“The photographer succeeds admirably in portraying the lives and culture of this complex social group – bringing new light and understanding, as well as fresh perspective, through his keen artistic eye and humanistic vision. The Roma and Sinti are two ethnic groups with origins in Northern India. Their members are sometimes disparagingly referred to as ‘gypsies’ and they have too often been the object of unfair discrimination.”
