Marco Wilm
Marco Wilm (b. 1992, Rauenberg, Germany) is a Berlin-based photographer whose work explores the urban dimension of the human condition and the psychological weight of life in the modern metropolis. His fine art photos depicting isolated figures, absorbed in the urban fabric, are marked by cold, often near-monochromatic tones, geometric architectural structures, and subtle elements of warmth, color, and life that animate the image from within.
Wilm’s approach is twofold, defined by control and unpredictability. First, he carefully constructs the composition by rigorously creating the stage of his photographs on carefully-selected architectural sites, establishing a pictorial framework. In the second stage, he waits patiently for an unposed human presence to enter that setting.
Rather than shooting in rapid sequences, Wilm works deliberately, releasing the shutter only at the decisive moment—or what might here be called le moment authentique: a fleeting instant of raw authenticity in which urban anonymity becomes personal, the void turns into an embrace, and the physical distance is pierced by the point of entry, allowing the viewer to connect in a direct manner with the image and subject. Recent solo and group exhibitions include at Random Gallery (2026) in Budapest, Hungary; Jehangir Art Gallery (2026) in Mumbai, India; Joseph Froissard Gallery (2025) in Paris, France; Blank Wall Galleryv(2025) in Athens, Greece; the Glasgow Gallery of Photography (2023) in Glasgow, Scotland; Decode Gallery (2022) in Tuscon, the United States; and the Center for Photography (2021) in Dallas, the United States.
