URBAN has extended its deadline to June 15, 2025, giving photographers more time to showcase their talent. The competition’s prize money has grown impressively, now exceeding €46,000. This considerable sum not only highlights the prestige of the competition but also provides significant incentives for participants. Handmade and high-value trophies and medals, professional photographic equipment, and exclusive exhibition opportunities are just some of the prizes awaiting the winners. This constantly growing prize pool underscores the competition’s commitment to recognizing and supporting photographic talent worldwide.
The URBAN 2025 prize money is higher than ever. Here are just some of the figures for the First Place winner in each section:
- €2,000 for the Photographer of the Year
- €2,000 for the winner of the Projects & Portfolios section
- €500 for the winner of the URBAN Book Award section
- €600 for the winner of the URBAN Photo Arena section

International Jurors and Special Awards
The jury of the Urban Photo Awards is composed of internationally renowned photographers and industry experts, who partly change each year, ensuring a fresh and authoritative perspective. URBAN is proud to have always hosted legendary photographers as jury presidents, such as Harry Gruyaert, Susan Meiselas, Jérôme Sessini, Alec Soth, Nino Migliori, Bruce Gilden, Alex Webb, and Martin Parr, to name a few.
For the 2025 edition, the jury will be chaired by Matt Black, Paolo Verzone, Denis Curti, and many others. These jurors, renowned for their contributions to the field of art and photography, add a new level of prestige to the competition. Their expertise will ensure that winners are selected based on the highest standards of creativity and technical skill.
An exceptional award is the “Matt Black Special Prize – Gazes on Existence”. This prestigious recognition will be awarded to three photographers among the hundreds in the competition, chosen by Matt Black himself. The winner will have the honor of sharing exhibition space at Magazzino 26 (Porto Vecchio) in Trieste with Matt Black’s photographs. The three winners of the Matt Black Special Prize will be selected and awarded by the famous photographer during the awards ceremony, which will be held on Saturday, October 25, during Trieste Photo Days.
The “Patricia D. Richards Legacy Award”, the Special Prize for photographers Under 35 and awarded by Denis Curti for the best portfolio, will also be conferred in the 2025 edition of URBAN Photo Awards. This award confirms its commitment to supporting young emerging authors.
The selected photographer will receive a six-month English language scholarship at the Creative Photography School. This award aims to cultivate young talents, offering a valuable opportunity for growth in an international environment.
