CREATIVE – The Single Photos Category at the URBAN Photo Awards

The CREATIVE category in the Single Photos section of the URBAN Photo Awards is dedicated to images that challenge perceptions and push beyond the boundaries of traditional photography: a space where reality is only the starting point, and what matters is where the imagination decides to go.

The category embraces a wide range of approaches: from fine art to digital art, from abstract to conceptual, from minimalism to surrealism, from macro photography to experimental visions. What these very different languages have in common is a single condition: every image must bring an original vision, capable of transforming the visible into something unexpected.

Unlike the other categories in the Single Photos section, in CREATIVE post-production is not only permitted but actively encouraged as a fully expressive tool. Artists are free to intervene substantially on their images, using retouching and digital manipulation to construct visions that go beyond the photographic document and open onto more artistic and conceptual territories.

The Single Photos jury is led by Christopher Morris, one of the defining figures of international photojournalism, with the ability to recognise the power of an image regardless of the language it is built with.
